Who Would?

Scene 1

[Int. Hospital hallway, day.]

Unknown (voice): As Kristine and Peter arrive at the hospital they can’t help but wonder who is behind this. They have no leads and no one is speaking up to them about it.

Peter: You know something; my grandmother is in this same hospital.

Kristine: (confused) Wait what?

Peter: My grandmother is here too, she is on the 3rd floor I believe.

Kristine: Why is she here?

Peter: She had problems falling and hurting herself. So my aunts decide that she can’t stay at the house so she is staying at the hospital rehab right across from here.

Kristine: Maybe you should go see her while we are here.

Peter: I will, but first let’s go see Étaín. Just know if there are problems from her, I am leaving to go find my grandma.

Kristine: Fine with me, did you tell your grandma about me?

Peter: I told her about you yes, she knows we are dating, and she has been waiting to meet you.

Kristine: (smiles) Aw, Peter. I so want to meet her now.

Peter: In a little bit dear you could. I want to see how Étaín is doing.

Kristine: (shocked) Wow, what a change of heart you are having.

Peter: I’d figure it’s the least I can do because she got hurt the same way as my mother did. So I feel for her.

Kristine: Well, we are here, let’s go in.

Peter and Kristine enter the room to see Étaín by herself.

Kristine: (smiles) Hey Étaín!

Étaín: (smiling) Hey Kristy, glad to see you made it up here. Hi, Peter.

Peter: (smiles) Hi Étaín, are you feeling okay?

Étaín: I am for now thanks. I got a massive headache but I will be fine in a few days.

Kristine: Did you want anything?

Étaín: No I will be okay, my mom and dad went out to get me something to eat. Get comfortable.

Peter: Étaín, I am so sorry this happened to you. You didn’t deserve this.

Étaín: I appreciate that Peter, thank you. I want to find out who did this now too.

Kristine: Did you tell your parents about it.

Étaín: I can’t, if I do then they will flip out, and possibly go after you two. I don’t want to see you both get hurt or anything.

Peter: My mom suffered the same fate as you; she got a concussion and was out of it. I hope you feel fine.

Étaín: I was told I was unconscious and was bleeding from the back. I heard it wasn’t a lot of blood, but it was enough to make someone with a weak stomach have to puke.

Kristine: It is not a good idea to not tell them, I mean we can explain to them what is going on.

Étaín: (scared) But they won’t like the fact that I was hurt for a problem that has to do with the both of you and not me. I am your best friend Kristine, I am not you or Peter so they should leave me out of this. If this creep wants you two to pay then it shouldn’t involve me or Peter’s mother.

Kristine: Look, we will find this person soon. Once we do, everyone who was hurt by this person will get their chance at redemption. I do believe though you shouldn’t have been involved with this at all. I think this person should be trying to go after us instead of those we love. If this is his way of making up pay then it isn’t working to well. It’s pissing me off more than anything.

Peter: You are not the only one. Finding my mom like this then hearing about Étaín is just making me even more furious than ever. After reading that letter I knew someone had a death wish coming. I am just about ready to start going around and asking who would be the one to do such a thing.

Étaín: (calmly) Look, for now worry about what could be next. It was Peter’s mom, now me, who knows who could be next. Peter, I would watch my back if I were you, and Kristine, keep an eye out at all times. Wait Peter, when your mom was attacked, where were you?

Peter: The floor above her, why?

Étaín: It goes to show that this person will even attack when you are around. You need to be around everyone at all times, same to you Kristy. You were out when I was attacked, so keep an eye out with your parents and anyone else.

Kristine: I should be doing that. I will be doing that. I need to make sure everyone is okay and not hurt.

Peter: There’s only a very few left for me to keep eyes on, but I will do so to make sure nobody else gets hurt.

Kristine: Étaín you too. You never know if this person sees you got back up and wanted you down this person might bring you back down.

Étaín: You are right; no one knows what this person is capable of. I want you two to be safe though, I am afraid of what could be next.

Peter: We won’t be waiting long enough to see. I know for sure we will find this person before he can strike again.

Kristine: (smiling) You can count on us to get it done.

Peter’s phone rings.

Peter: I got to take this, I’ll be back.

Peter leaves.

Étaín: (laughs) You two seem set on finding this person.

Kristine: Of course, his mom was hurt and you were hurt too. I feel bad for his mom, but also you are my best friend, I don’t want to see you getting hurt.

Étaín: I will admit, maybe I was wrong about Peter.

Kristine: (smiling) Finally a change of heart?

Étaín: A little. He probably knows I don’t really like him, but to see him come here and wanting to help find who did this shows me he cares. Even though I act like jerk to him.

Kristine: (smiling) Étaín, that is so sweet to say. He would be happy to hear that.

Étaín: I can’t really tell him that though.

Kristine: (confused) Why?

Étaín: I still think something is up, I just can’t figure it out. Yes he made you happy and is sweet, but I have a weird feeling something is not right.

Kristine: If I find out nothing is wrong can you drop the whole thing?

Étaín: I need to find out myself, but for now I will give him some credit.

Kristine: Even that sounds nice coming from you.

Étaín: Yeah don’t mention it.

Peter returns.

Peter: Hey Étaín, I got to start heading out, my grandma isn’t doing so well and my brother said to go see her.

Étaín: Sure thing Peter, go do what you got to do.

Peter: Thanks Étaín, please get better very soon. Kristine, do you want to join me?

Kristine: Is it okay if I go with him?

Étaín: Sure, my mom and dad will be back shortly.

Kristine: (smiling) Okay. Étaín get better, I will come back later today.

Peter and Kristine say their goodbyes to Étaín and leave.
