As a follow-up to /u/silentisdeath and his generous split of Fredrick Malle's le Parfum de Therese; I felt that it was only necessary to give a thorough review of this perfume.
/u/silentisdeath purchased this bottle directly from Barney's and split it (generously I might add) with 10 lucky people; of which I was one. We purchased a 5ml split for $25 each. I would also like to add that /u/silentisdeath was very quick to decant the splits, and kept us updated via his post from Valentine's day.
A bit of background about the fragrance: Fredrick Malle's release of this perfume was due to many years of speculation of a perfume specifically made for nose Edmond Roudnitska's wife in the 1950's. After he Edmond passed away, Fredrick Malle approached his wife in the hopes of sharing this perfume with the world. Now I know we are a subreddit full of men, however, I assure this is not a perfume just for women. It is a wonderful fruity-leather.
My review:
I received this 5ml split yesterday 20 Feb 2018 and immediately unscrewed the top and took a big wiff. Let me tell you right now you young and old whippersnappers, this perfume is initially PUNGENT. The perfume opens with a strong note of tangerine and rose, after about 30 minutes the tangerine subsides into a mellow note of melon along with rose. After about 2 hours or so I started to get hints of plum, still supplied with a heavy rose to contribute to the scent. The vetiver is very very mellow, as well as the cedar. These two scents only came hours after the initial spray. The slight hint of leather as a base note is very mellow throughout the entire wear of the perfume.
Overall this scent is one that I would wear as a night or date scent. For men, this perfume should only be sprayed ONCE, or be prepared to smell like your grandmother all day. You need to know that this was a perfume made specifically for a woman, but it can be worn by men to a successful degree, just beware of overuse. As an added bonus, my wife is currently wearing this perfume as well. She is more of a fan of it than I am. My personal preference of scents are Bleu de Chanel, Creed Aventus, Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, Serge Luten's Bois et Musc , and Creed Irish Tweed. As you can tell I like more woody, smoky, and clean manly scents.
Overall Grade for this scent are as follows:
Complexity: 6/10
Men's Wear: 6/10
Women's Wear: 8/10
Thanks again to /u/silentisdeath for the opportunity to try this perfume.
