tl;dr: what type of brush do you prefer and why?
Edit: I want to thank everyone for your responses. Definitely learned a lot more about synthetic brushes than I obviously knew previously. When I was learning about wet shaving, particularly what types of brushes are best (on that other sub), everything I read was badger badger badger and anything else will just not be as good. I'll leave my ignorance below intact so other newbie lurkers won't make the same mistakes I did.
OP below:
What's up everyone? Wanted to do an informal-ish survey of your preferences on shaving supplies (brushes in particular). I recently got a pre-order invite from a company so I was looking around their merch and while most of it seemed pretty good, their brush left a lot to be desired.
I have used boar and badger, badger obviously being the better of the two. I've also used a synthetic brush once and never picked it up again because no thanks. I recently got my hands on a horse hair brush that I'm waiting to try out.
So my question for all of you is: what type of brush do you prefer and why? Badger is obviously tops, but the cost can make it less attractive for some. Just by feel, the horse hair brush feels comparable to the badger but I'll have to wait and see about how well it lathers and all that. Cost is comparable to a boar brush, so that made it an attractive option for me (plus, cruelty-free sourcing is always nice).
The company was offering a synthetic brush in their accessories kit (brush, soap, aftershave) and I kinda got smug like "synthetic? what is this, amateur hour?" but thinking on it again, some of you may like synthetics!
