I posted recently that I was going to try my hand at replating. I finally had time on my hands so I got to it yesterday. I intend to do a more detailed post for those interested in the process, but I'm cooking for 10 tonight so I've got to get the house cleaned and food prepped, so this is just a one razor results post.
I started with an E2 Fat Boy that I picked up from the Echo Box that went around last summer or so. I figured it would show the most difference as it was in pretty crap shape with a bunch of brassing all over.
I did it in a solution to unplate it at 3 volts for a couple of minutes, pulling it out of the bath every 30 seconds or so to rotate it. Then it spent a total of probably an hour in the plating bath at 2 volts with me checking on it periodically.
Finally I scrubbed it down with a toothbrush and scrubbing bubbles and went at it with Maas and an old t shirt and then a dremel tool for small area buffing. It's not as pristine as I hoped, but looks worlds better than it did. I'll take it for a first attempt.
First two are before, last pic is after all shot on the same surface and mostly the same light.
