For the last couple of days I have been fortunate to use Tiki Bar Soap's Pumpkin Lager shaving soap. This is another fantastic soap from one of the many talented artisans that serve our community.

  • Scent

Scent is an important consideration for me with any soap, and it is the main reason I buy as many soaps as I do. The Tiki Bar website describes the scent of this soap as:

The scent is a seasonal malt blend of freshly picked pumpkin, with notes of nutmeg and cinnamon topped off with finishing notes of fermentation and warm vanilla. Because of the cinnamon and nutmeg notes in the fragrance, we used much less than the recommended usage rate to reduce irritation, however the scent is still nice and strong, but not overly so. Warm and inviting is a better description.

To me this soap smells exactly like a pumpkin spice donut from Dunkin Donuts. It is sweet and spicy and delicious enough that you may want to take a bite out of the puck!

  • Loading

Some people might remember that I am a little particular about how easy soaps are to load, especially with how they soaps are presented in their containers. Sadly this is where I ran into a little frustration with this soap. The soap itself is on the softer side with a texture and density similar to Stirling soaps which makes it easy to load using the “dry brush” method. However it comes packed in a tin, and the puck actually is a few millimeters taller than the sides of the tin. For me is is very tricky to load this soap in it’s tin without slopping pre-lather all over the sides. The saving grace for this soap is that it is really just a puck placed into a tin so if you have an appropriately sized container laying around you can easily transfer the puck over in to make loading a little easier.

  • Lather

This soap lathers very easily once you have loaded your brush properly. This soap also seems very forgiving to the amount of water you use with it. I got great lathers using only a little water, and incredibly slick lathers when I used a lot of water. In both cases the lather was dense and creamy and with a texture like yogurt. Performance was better when I used more water as this increased the slickness of the soap which offered notably more protection for my skin. My skin felt so slick that I almost thought I couldn’t give myself razor burn if I had tried to.

  • Post Shave

Tiki Bar Pumkin Lager shaving soap left my skin feeling smooth and moisturized. Honestly my skin felt great after shaving with this soap. Unlike Tarte à la Citrouille, which was Seigenglatt’s special Edition Fall soap the cinnamon and spice scent didn’t linger past the post-shave rinse. That isn’t a negative for Tiki Bar Pumpkin Lager as this means the scent won’t interfere with your favorite aftershave, however I really did enjoy the lingering scent of Tarte à la Citrouille and Pumpkin Lager smells just as delicious.

  • TL;DR

This soap smells delicious, maybe even better than Tarte Ă  la Citrouille if you like your Pumpkin scents more on the sweet side. If you enjoy the smell of pumpkin spice donuts or muffins, this soap is for you! It produces a rich slick lather that is moisturizing and leaves your face feeling smooth and irritation free.

I appears as if tins of this soap are currently sold out. However it looks as it bare wrapped pucks are still available. I would recommend everyone try to pick up a puck of this soap before the season is over because it is the perfect scent for a cool Fall morning.
