Why are Single-Edge razors (like GEM) far less popular than DEs or SRs?
Post Body

I've noticed that Single-Edge razors are talked about and used a lot less than Double-Edge and Straights here and on W_E. Were they always the minority razor and were the least popular of the 3? If so, why do you guys think they never caught on?

I also feel like I've only seen a couple of brands that produced single-edges, whereas there are a ton more DE and SR companies. Having no desire myself to get one, but have tried double edges, straights and even shavettes, only makes me feel like I'm right in thinking that they're the "outcast" razors. And how do they shave in comparison to other types of razors?

Thanks!
