Post Body

He was a natural. He was cool, convincing and likeable. He was handsome, too. And of course, he was a hell of a horseman. He had the potential to be a star.

However, after he fell apart with John Ford, he was no longer a lead man. He was a staple of Western throughout in the 50s and 60s, but he mostly played side characters, and more often than not, he was little more than a glorified extra. Then, of course, Peter Bogdanovich called him to play Sam the Lion in The Last Picture Show, but thatโ€™s another story.

Do you have any idea why he used to play such small parts? He had been a main character in two major films starring John Wayne.
