As part of the ongoing initiative to rebuild Spain for the people, now that the Civil War is over, the Worker's Front has created an initiative to help produce and disseminate art with a Socialist bent to the people. We will be funding Social Realism, Socialist Realism, Futurism, various forms of sculpture, and we will be commissioning a certain Pablo Picasso, renowned Spanish artist to make a piece in order to glorify the Spanish proletarians and peasants, but also to highlight the class divides which are still present.
Last we heard, he was packing for a trip to the countryside of northern Spain...
Picasso takes in the small town of Guernica. Bilbao is off in the distance, somewhere, but he can't see it from here; he stands on top of a nearby hill, a hill covered in grain stalks, from which he can see Guernica itself, the farms and houses around it, and in the distance, old castles and country houses.
"This location okay, Comrade Picasso?" says the farmer who helped him find this spot.
"This is beyond perfect. Thank you."
"No problem! Er, is it okay if I watch?"
"Well, uh, I sort of get performance anxiety..."
"Oh, yeah, sorry, I understand. Happens to me with the wife, sometimes. Good luck!"
As the farmer heads off to tend to his business elsewhere, Picasso sets up his easel. He'd hoped for a few more days in Barcelona before he had to go somewhere else, but, he supposed, this was okay, too. The light is just right.
He dips his brush into his palette, and sets his brush to canvas.
