The Worker's Front of Spain, in line with the fact that Gibraltar is a strategic location, and that it could probably use some beefing up, will begin excavating the Siege Tunnels which were collapsed in some sections by Monarchist traps, setting up AA screens to prevent air assault, and browsing the stocks of various sellers for more naval cannons to mount on the point. In addition, we are very interested in the idea of some kind of Torpedo Battery, or maybe even several Torpedo Batteries, from the Gibraltar Rock, like what Norway has. We will also be constructing an airfield nearby and working to make the area into a workable port location for much of the United Fleet.
Gibraltar, Late-1940.
Gabriela found that digging through the rocks and dirt in the siege tunnels was miserable and annoying work. The dirt gets into your eyes, your mouth, your nose until you sneeze, and the rocks scratch up your thighs and arms. But, then, Gabriela previously in loading up a power plant with Coal, so, at least this dust wasn't black and sooty when it got into her lungs. And, at least she always had a letter from Rafael to read when she needed it.
Rafael was a strange one, to be honest; he was, well, weirdly enamored with the agrarian lifestyle, especially for a socialist. But, he was a very nice boy aside from the quirks, and obviously she had been taken in by him, given that they had gotten married. He was somewhat of a pushover, though.
She smiled as she took a break from excavating a tunnel on the east side of the rock to peek at his latest letter, which would make this her 30th reading that day.
Gabriela,
So, you know how I said that, no matter what, I wouldn't let myself be shanghaied into volunteering to fight in France by Savannah and Gennaro?
Yeah...
Please direct all future mail to the Division Azul, in France.
With love,
Your Rafael
<3
He never was one to write long letters, but he was always able to get his point across concisely. And the ink he used always smelled like unwilling gunsmithing and tears, just like him! Gabriela sighs happily, before tucking the letter back into her pocket, and getting back to work; there were still a great many siege tunnels to dig out, and this rock in the tunnels was needed in order to be turned into new bricks for the fortress.
