Jose Diaz, in a speech in his home city of Sevilla, among Rifleman-Workers rebuilding destroyed houses, recognizes the importance of Self-Critique in the Marxist-Leninist movement.
Among other things, he has some very specific things to say, which he would lay out in many important and influential works of theory which would be published all across the world:
"...Our movement must be dusted from time to time in order to keep it fresh and strong; otherwise, the dust piles up, and the old and bad thought weighs down the good in the movement. The whole of the Worker's Front must be ready and willing to self criticize their own actions when they are flawed, and all of the Worker's Front and all of the Workers and Peasants must be ready, willing, and able to critique the actions of others..."
"...It will be the youth, the students and young ones, who lead the criticism most of all; their eyes are unsullied by adulthood, and they will know wrong when they see it, when they feel it. They will be called upon to criticize and remove from power leaders and figure who have begun to waver in their judgement, so as to correct them or remove a corrupting influence from our great movement..."
"We should not be afraid to criticize ourselves, or of criticism from our comrades. This is the most important thing of all. There is no shame in this action, there is only self improvement, and the improvement of the movement of a whole! We will only be made stronger by recognizing our wrongs."
"I will go on to criticize myself in this piece; I have made mistakes in my judgement as the first Chairman of the Revolution, which have been pointed out either by myself, or by others. I am not a figure who is to be glorified; I am a leader, figure who is to be criticized so that they may lead better in line with the principles of Marxism-Leninism and with the needs and desires of the Workers and Peasants, whom the Vanguard Party leads and is made up of."
"...Just as much as it is a tool to reform, protect, and improve the movement from within and without, Criticism is a tool against those who would deceive and misguide us. There is no better tool than action, of course, but one must always rally support for action via polemic. Movements and organizations counter to the revolution can be weakened by criticizing them, their goals, their theory, and their practice, and as such, enlighten the masses to our own movements and organizations."
