[R&D] The Development of the Stanford Gun

Post Body

Ireland has been in need for an SMG to produce in Ireland for some time. Tensions in the urban parts of Belfast require guns that aren't as unwieldy as rifles but can still fire shots down range unlike a pistol or a shotgun. However, our license providers in Canada can't give us a license for any SMG, and we would prefer to have a domestic gun for pride purposes and so that we don't need to rely on others as much, so we will make our own SMG.

It will basically be a copy of the MP28. It will be solidly built for an SMG, though of course quality wouldn't be as good as the MP28 since we don't have as good arms production facilities. It will accept 32 round or 50 round box magazines, be chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, have a 600 round/min firerate and be decently reliable. We will use the shipment of MP28s arriving from Germany for this purpose. The MP28 has proven to be a deadly weapon for Urban and Mobile warfare, which is why we will clone it.

Development of this weapon will be top-secret, especially considering the lack of other secret developments we're doing. It will be called the Stanford gun after the principal design lead of this weapon, William Bedell Stanford who valiantly took several years off his Greek study in order to take a deep dive into armament manufacture. However, we predict that many people would instead call it the "Stan" gun since it sounds cooler than "Stanford gun". Production will be done in expansions of our existing facilities for the time being but a new factory will start to be built in Dublin emulating our existing ones. Canada will have to ask to use the SMG, which hopefully means we can trade it for other licensing rights we need. After a development period of two months (it is a copy after all), we hope to begin production at 400 units a month for a month and then reach a capacity of 1000 units a month after this. We will spend $300,000 on the development of this weapon and its manufacturing facilities with an additional $20,000 for material and labor costs related to the production of this initial batch.

[m: This is basically a slightly shoddier version of the IRL Lanchester SMG, assume specs are like it if not mentioned.]
