Following the failed walkout of not only the Socialist Party of America but the America First Party from the chambers of Congress and the passage of the Wagner-Garner Bill, it seemed the Establishment had won a victory. But at what cost to the country and the nation as a whole? With internal polling among the parties being split on the political ramifications of the stunt needed to pass Wagner-Garner as well as the SPA's and AFP's brief leave from Washington, its clear that America is in a political crisis. With memories of Hoover's election via the House in 1932 and the near wipe-out of the Establishment in the 1934 midterms to radicals on both the left and the right, its clear that the current state of affairs can not be maintained. With several seats held by the opposition only held via a plurality due to the splitting of the Establishment's votes between Republicans and Democrats, its has become clear that now more than ever that the Establishment is quite literally shooting its own electoral chances in the foot with even 'safe' seats now having the potential to flip.
With the SPA and AFP having a sizable chance to outright win the Presidential Election, a solution was proposed to consolidate not just only the Republican and Democrat parties - on a temporary basis - but Farmer-Labor and the Progressives into a Unity ticket designed to combat the excesses of both the left and the right and help lead America on a path of recovery. While securing Olson's party seemed like a pipe-dream due to the fact that they caucus with the SPA, that pipe-dream would only be possible with the support of the Progressive Party led by one Henry A. Wallace. Recognizing both the Progressive Party's ability to carry several Midwestern states that will surely be hotly contested this year as well as Wallace's plans to help combat the Great Depression through assisting farmers and the unemployed, Senator Roosevelt and House Speaker Garner would propose in secret - initially - to Wallace that he lead a coalition ticket of Progressives-Republicans-Democrats (with the possible addition of Farmer-Labor in the future) this election cycle, stating that the coalition's party platform has not been set in stone and will only be finalized once the NUP holds a convention in the summer.
If Wallace accepts, then offers will be made for Farmer-Labor to join the ticket, stating that they will respect the current allotment of Farmer-Labor representatives in both the House and Senate committees, do their best to be inclusive of Farmer-Labor's stances on issues, and will work together to bring America out of this eleven year slump. If Wallace declines to join, the Democrats and Republicans will join together as a unity ticket, nominating Quentin Roosevelt as their Presidential pick for the upcoming election.
