While the Easter Promises have been fulfilled, foreign intervention and the increasing bellicosity of the Japanese Empire have delayed the final step of the SDP's political platform - the restoration of the Bundesrat. Abolished by the dictator Ludendorff, the Bundesrat remained abolished with the DkP riding off of the popularity of Tirpitz to avoid such a democratic measure. However, this situation can not be allowed to continue and as such, the SDP-FVP-NLP coalition (with some support from the rest of the political establishment) have voted to restore the Bundesrat immediately, with elections for provisional seats expected to take place in the next few months.
With the Austrian referendum securing a majority - but not the landslide Germany was hoping for - the SDP and their coalition are forced to take Austria's demands into serious consideration. As such, the SDP propose the following measures to ensure a speedy but efficient integration of the next bastion of the Empire. Austria will enjoy the same level of autonomy with regards to its military forces and state budget as the southern Germanic kingdoms currently have, but the Austrian army will at the end of the day, be placed under the oversight of the German High Command. As for the demand for hereditary elections the SDP will agree to this - if and only if - it is done within the current framework and guidelines of the Bundesrat. Its hoped that because of the nature of the current Bundesrat framework that the nobility will accept this arrangement, that even with the ascension of Austria into the realm, Prussia still holds a large plurality of the votes and it can easily secure enough votes to continue the Hohenzollern dynasty.
