In the aftermath of the collapse of the Austro Hungarian Empire and the subsequent crisis in Austria, Emperor Karl I have all but abdicated, turning Austria into a constitutional monarchy. With the power of the Emperor now gone, Austria itself faces an uncertain future. In the wake of the food crisis as well as the economic troubles Austria is going through due to a loss of the Empire, the Großdeutsche Volkspartei and German Agrarian Party have particularly risen to dominance, and in an unlikely agreement over policy with the SFO, demanding an immediate end to the war.
The average Austrians, resenting the orders for mobilisation and conscription to fight for the Monarchy to restore rule over Hungary and Bohemia, have turned to the anti-war Social Democrats or the German Nationalists in the streets demanding for an end to the war, and relinquishing all non-German lands.
Thus, with heavy pressure on the government, Austria signed the armistice of Vienna with the Kingdom of Italy, Hungary, Illyria and the Czech Republic, which would lay the groundwork for a comprehensive peace treaty signed in December. All ethnically non German lands of the Empire will essentially be lost, including some German lands in northern Sudentenland.
"The Habsburg have left behind nothing more than a pile of filth"
The future of Austria looks to be uncertain. Economic troubles as food shortages and unemployment plague the nation. The fall of the Habsburg power caused many to advocate for the complete abolishment of the monarchy to found a Republic, many advocates to simply join the German Empire, as Austria alone as a nation could simply not support itself. The threat to other nations security also runs high, as one analyst noted, should relief shipments and emergency loans not granted, possibilities for a revolution might be imminent in Austria.
