Overview

America is in chaos, General MacArthur have declared martial law and seized the government. A President in power who wasn’t voted in by the majority of the country wasn’t of that major concern to MacArthur, however the fact that a Red would be the President was unacceptable.

Immediately, the change in power, while abrupt, was not clean. MacArthur's seizure of DC ignored many important politicians who did not live in DC itself. Most left wing politicians left for Chicago upon the direction of underground Socialist militiamen.

Within the week, the general strike declared in hiding by Reed prompted Socialist militias in almost all major cities to rebel. Most are squashed relatively quickly, especially in the west aside from in Washington, due to a lack of support in the immediate vicinity. Certain pockets of actual control was established however, with the most notable ones being the confederation of communes in the Deep South.

As War Plan White is activated, MacArthur sends the army west in order to secure vital infrastructure. Minnesota, despite heavy socialist presence, came under direct military occupation preventing the fledgling Chicagoans to exert control over them. North Carolina was secured as well as the crucial naval base at Norfolk. The Rockies states of Colorado, Wyoming, most of Idaho and New Mexico are also seized by the military. Most of southern Texas along with its oil is also firmly under the Military Government’s hands.

Up north, declaring itself the legitimate democratically elected government of the United States, a coalition of mostly SPA and some NUP party members establishing itself in Chicago. Immediately, socialist militias rise up in a general strike in most major cities. A lot of them were swiftly dealt with by the local national guards, or by the US Military. By the end of December, the Chicago Government’s authority extends over much of the steel belt, most of Washington, and in some stronghold cities in the Deep South.

In the North, with labour demands mostly compromised, the news of the military coup shocked the Bretton-Woods confederation of governors. The Home Guard was immediately dispatched and the quick response, almost hours after news of the coup, allowed the Guard to secure much of the states without much resistance. By the end of the month however most of Pennsylvania have declared for the Chicago Government, and with Socialist militias spilling over into New Jersey, the 8 Bretton states band together and formed the Government of the United States in New England.

In the South (amongst other regions of Longist support), AFP militias stormed city halls and immediately installed party members upon position of power if they weren’t there already, in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Illinois, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. Huey Long was declared by the AFP state legislatures to be the Executive Governor of All The South. Long does not declare a rival government for now knowing that his legitimacy is limited outside of his core base, however he has not yet thrown in his hat with any particular claimant yet.

In the West, using MacArthur’s orders as a prerogative to raise their national guardsmen and declare martial law, California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Utah alongside the territories of Hawaii and Alaska are functionally independent. While technically still under the Military Government, DC has little control over the state governments here, and almost all essentials leading to these states across the Rockies have been severed due to weeks of Military - Socialist fighting.
