King Peter I was heralded as a hero when he led the nation in liberating the Serbs of Kosovo and Macedonia from the yoke of Ottoman rule. Serbia had suffered much in the 500 years of occupation by the Turks, and for the first time, after the Balkan Wars it had dignity. Now, again, Serbia was dignified, a European nation among European nations, and no longer a cuckolded by backstabbers.

While the war with Bulgaria is finished, our nation is still threatened, and Field Marshal Draža Mihailović’s military reforms still stand. The 25,000 men mobilized in anticipation of war with Bulgaria will be gradually demobilized, first given army jobs in an engineer corps that will be tasked with building road networks from Kragujevac and Niš to Novi Pazar, Priština, and Skopje. They will rebuild infrastructure damaged by the war, and 5,000 of them will retain their jobs in the engineer corps after 1937, while the remaining 20,000 will be demobilized. Mihailović has announced a reorganization of Army headquarters, that he intends to announce in July of 1936.

As a nod to our Greek comrades, when Serbia organizes Macedonia as an administrative unit in Serbia, whether it remains whole as historic Macedonia or divided into opštine, the region of historic Macedonia will henceforth be known as Vardarska Macedonia (or Vardar Macedonia) and this is what will be taught in school geography courses.

Meanwhile Serbian businesses are encouraged to buy vacant properties and defunct businesses in Vardar Macedonia, while Serbian industry will be offered minor subsidies to build new factories in Skopje and the surrounding regions. (This will be included, Prime Minister Cvetković said, in Parliament’s upcoming omnibus development bill).

Serbs across the country flocked to the streets and flew patriotic banners and sang patriotic songs. On June 28th, Vidovdan, a great festival was scheduled to be held in Belgrade, with parades and floats, and a military parade showing off the Serbian “heroes of the war;” units that were decorated for distinguished combat, including the liberators of Pirot, who inflicted massive casualties on the Bulgarian Army and pushed to the gates of Sofia.

King Alexander presented Field Marshals Draža Mihailović and Milan Nedić both with the Order of the White Eagle, First Class – the second highest Royal Order in the Kingdom of Serbia, while numerous other soldiers were decorated for their gallantry and officers with minor medals.

The Chetnik Association against Bulgarian Banditry was officially disestablished, with Kosta Pećanac instead being transferred to the Association of Chetniks for Freedom and Honour of the Fatherland, which was on paper disestablished. Discretely, some generals in the military gave Pećanac the go ahead to move his bands into Montenegro and Bosnia
