I remember the first time I drove myself to Wellington in 98/99 after I got my drivers license. I was from waikanae, and that first drive down the ngauranga gorge in the sunset, watching the city explode out of the harbour in colors. Looking at all the houses and thinking I'd love to live in Wellington one day. That I could get a good job there and build a career, maybe become a part of the city in someway.
I moved to Wellington 20 years ago now, and work at a small company, and feel a very deep connection to the place. But every time I drive down the ngauranga gorge in the sunset I'm reminded of that first visit, and feel a little smile, that I got to move here and fulfill that dream of a 17 year old.
