Weld Screen to Tube
Post Body

I'm designing an enclosure filter and with the bad welds I see on the rest of our equipment, I wanted to ask a question here. Can an average welder TIG a fine, stainless steel screen, about 2.5" dia, to the end of a stainless steel tube?

The screen is .0021 wire, with. 003 space, and it will sit flat on the end of the tube. The tube wall thickness can be whatever is required, so that's the second part of the question. What wall thickness would that average welder need?

An alternative would be to cut a small ring of the tube material, sandwich the screen between the two parts of tube, and weld them back together. The screen will not ever need to be replaced

I hope I described this well enough. I'm worried that the fine screen will just melt away and be useless. Thanks in advance for your help.
