Intermittent fasting

My doctor has suggested I try intermittent fasting to help with weight loss. Does anyone do this currently? How long do you fast for? I think I will struggle as I feel like I need to eat when I have my breaks at work as everyone else does and we all sit together on our breaks (school staff). I also am worried that if I stop IF that I will put weight back on, has this happened to anyone else? Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.
