What is better to track meals?

I'm looking into tracking my meals for calories and possibly macros. I used to use MFP, however I'm not liking the way it's setup now and have heard many people not being happy with how it's now costing money for using it.
Anyone here use an app to track the food and was successful using it? I've even thought about using a journal like diet minder, however I'd continually have to look up the food to write it down.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
