At 5-6,000 cal/day just to maintain, what happens the exercise stops?

I used to swim 2x/day, 6 days/wk, and it took 5-6,000 cal/day just to maintain normal weight, and that was important to do! If I skimped on food and lost a couple lbs, it was coming straight out of muscle because I didn’t really have much in the way of fat reserves.

It was glorious. I could eat takeout while making myself a second dinner. A whole pint of ice cream? Yea, that’s one serving. 3 slices of birthday cake for breakfast? Sure, a hot fire burns everything.

But what happens when the swimming stops?

I’m a living example of that. 6’ tall and lanky-muscular, I was trimmed for competition form more than a decade. But when the swimming stopped, it was hard to change habits - especially when they’re as fun as considering a whole sleeve of Oreos a single serving!

I fought it for years, but still saw my weight creep up. I’m not truly fat by the standards of this sub but…I’m definitely not skinny anymore either.

And just recently I injured my leg. Normally my gain has been a slow, steady creep of my habits weighing me down over time, but without being able to hike or go for long walks, the speed of gain has skyrocketed. I’m now feeling floated and overly chubby 24/7. My doc warned me about going over 200lbs, and I’m pretty sure I just accidentally sailed right past that in the last few weeks…

Open to chatting with women who would enjoy discussing my situation, role playing, or who generally find men of my size and predicament/journey attractive.
