To give some context. Our wedding photographer had a beautiful instagram and portfolio and we booked him under the impression he would be there on our wedding day. After booking him he became hard to reach and I had to initiate every single interaction to schedule anything. I very much felt like an afterthought throughout the entire experience working with him. At our engagement he mentioned he was building a "team" and that sometimes when they overbook for his company he will send out his team instead, I asked him if he would be at our wedding and he said "yes, since we were requesting a full team and he does both photography and videography.
Fast forward to our wedding week where he has mostly been MIA coming up on the day, he messages us a few days in advance saying "Wait! Hi guys, your wedding is in "X" this Saturday?" I panic and think he's forgotten our wedding day. We schedule a call and throughout it all he says "we will be there at x time etc etc". 10 pm the night BEFORE the wedding he texts me four random numbers and wants to introduce me to my team of 2 photographers and 2 videographers, and I realize he's not included in that. He tells me he "thought he told me he would not be there" and he "guaranteed I would love" my photos and he would be doing all the editing.
Well, I do not love my photos, they are aggressively mediocre and the photographer who took his place did not have his skill level. They all look like someone with an a moderately new iphone could've taken them with no eye for posing, framing, or angles. I have asked for re-edits of the photos 4 times now, and he has told me at this point due to the "lighting and conditions of my day" (overcast) there isn't much he can do to make it better. Which I feel is a cop out because I see photographers work in overcast days all the time and they can turn out amazing!
How can I ask him to just do the photos in the last editing style since he seems done with our requests while requesting for the RAWS as well without offending him? I'd like to see if another photographer can do a better job or even have our friends who actually care about us try who are in the industry. It feels like every time he does an edit he just does one preset for all the photos and doesn't seem to care at all. He still has to finish our videography video so we can't afford to make him angry at us.
TL:DR: I dislike our wedding photos and want to ask for the RAWs, how do I do this without making the photographer upset?
