What would you recommend someone trying to write a Slice of Life/Overall more grounded story?

Post Body

Idk if this is an appropriate post for this sub, but I figure I'd give it a shot. A wise man once said, "If you only stick to what you know, you'll never be greater than what you are." And that goes DOUBLE when it comes to improvment. As an aspiring writer, I've been 'coddled' by the concepts of supernatural powers and monsters/demons and crazy, out this world universes written so ecstacily zainny. That being said, for the sake of bettering my ability, i want to try making something more grounded story with more realistic stakes and characters. I personally never liked Slice of Life (Not a personal hatred for the genre, just never clicked with me) but I feel it'll be good for me if I learn to write stakes and plotlines that just don't end with 2 insane people punching eachother until one dies or explodes LMAO
