Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro keeps locking itself
Post Body

Hi all, I have a problem with my Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro that is driving me absolutely nuts. It keeps locking itself for no apparent reason in random intervals. Sometimes it stays unlocked for half a day, other times I literally have to unlock it ten times back to back. I've tried everything, I factory reset it twice (one from recovery, once from the settings), wiped the cache partition, cleaned the watch throughly etc. The watch is snug on my wrist, I've tried it to the point that blood wasn't getting to my hand and it still locked. I don't have dark skin, tattoos nor a I overly hairy or anything that would cause it to behave this way. Googling I couldn't find anyone with the same problem apart from a few mentions on the side. One person suggested that they have this problem with facer installed, which I could rule out because it also happened in a fresh state without facer installed. Does anybody else have this problem l? Is there a solution? This would be the perfect watch for me but as of now it is utterly useless and pissing me off to the point I want to return it.

EDIT if somebody finds this post: As u/Das-X pointed out in the comments my watch might be from a faulty batch manufactured in September 2023. I wrote to the eBay seller, who did not respond (even though it said they usually respond after 24h). So I called the Xiaomi support hotline. They immediately mailed me a return label, and I sent the watch in for "repair" today (probably/hopefully they will just replace it). We'll see how long it takes.

Update Tue 19.12.2023: after sending it in on saturday the service tracking now says "repair in progress", so it seems they won't just replace it. Let's see if they can fix the issues.

Update 2 Thu 28.12.2023: After comments started coming in on this post and I've seen other posts of people having problems with their watches, I sent the repair center an Email regarding my issues. Reading comments of people, it's not just the locking problem I had, the GPS had some sort of fault too and apparently it also had a battery drain issue. The GPS would act up during an (outdoor walking) workout, causing the watch to vibrate every now and then due to lost GPS signal. To my surprise, they acknowledged my Mail and the status is now saying that they will "continue repairs according to my latest feedback". At this point, I probably cost Xiaomi more than a replacement would have been, but what do I know, I just want a working watch, one way or another :/

Update 3 a while later: They sent the watch back after about a month with no errors found. I messaged the ebay seller again, who answered me this time saying they did not get my first message. Oddly, this was a seperate chat with the same seller, so them not getting the message checks out. They were super nice anyway and offered me to swap my watch, which I did. I got the silver version, October batch. Long story short, while it turned out that the random locking was indeed caused by facer, however, the October batch seems to function a lot better than my other watch. For one, the pulse meter is not constantly on when set to "smart", same with the AOD. It seems that sensors set to "smart" did not work. Battery life improved to the point I can get 1.5 days out of the watch with a few workouts. And the UI seems more responsive, with my old watch I noticed some stuttering. TL;DR: If you have problems and a September batch, just try and get a new one from the seller.
