"I wouldn't change it." Bo Welch, director of The Cat in the Hat, stands by his work
Post Body

Episode 387 on The Cat in the Hat found here.

Just read an interview with Bo Welch where he talks about The Cat in the Hat 20 years later, and takes no responsibility whatsoever for this awful pile of shit. I thought maybe he'd be a rational, thoughtful human and say something like, "Yeah we made some mistakes and there's things I wish we could have done better."

Instead, he blames everyone else, saying,

"You have to cook something up and as soon as you start to do that, there's a certain group who look adoringly at all of the Dr. Seuss books — especially Cat in the Hat — and they are instantly infuriated that you have taken this book and have violated it by adding any kind of narrative or story. So that was rough. I think that ultimately led to the insanely horrible reviews [which] were generated by people who felt violated by what we did with this precious book."

No, you obtuse son of a bitch, people were infuriated that you added an absolutely terrible narrative with jokes that were not funny.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone like him would take zero responsibility for this awful film. But pointing the finger at fans of Seuss and saying it's our problem really angered me more than I feel comfortable with.
