They say music makers who can analyze music are the ones who improve quickly. Lately, I have been listening through music that I made during my adolescent years, trying to pick out parts that make sense musically and expand on these ideas.
In this song, titled "Nobody Disturbs the Sun" I noticed that I was unknowingly using the "call and response" technique. This is when one voice sings a part and other voices sing in response making it sound like a conversation is happening between the voices. I decided to transfer this technique to an instrument for the instrument to play the response.
With the previous song I worked on, one thing that stood out to me was how the melody and the music didn't fit well together in certain sections. Besides the "theme and variation" technique, something else that helps with connecting the music is the use of fifth chords with no thirds (no3). This technique gives space for the melody to create the feel. If not the melody, then the listener.
For this song, fifth chords are mostly used, but I also introduce full chords in the chorus for variety. Simple chord progressions like the I-IV-V and ii-V-I are used to help tie everything together.
