I am currently about to embark on another recording project with my band. DIY etc. I have done this before with other bands I have been in and I have gotten some ok tones but I think I have been working the post production too hard to get what I want.
I am in a limited space (16' x 24' x 8' ceiling) so I can't get all the separation / isolation that I would like between all the drums. I need to get some advice on how any of you would approach this.
I have 3 drum kits in my possession. Pearl SBX Session all birch, Pearl Masters MCX all maple, and Pearl Reference varied shell constructions.
I have 2 x Shure Beta57a, Shure Beta52a, AKG D112, APEX 185 matched pencil condensers, Audio-Techinca MB/DK4 drum pack, a couple of random large diaphragm vocal mics.
I have 2 x Presonus Firestudio Project 10in/10out fw interfaces.
I am looking for a tone similar to Karnivool et al. I know I can tune the drums in the way required.
What would you do WATMM?
Here is a sample of my current drum sound via a youtube video recorded in my studio.
