what is a good way to be successful in music after high school?

by success i mean able to sustain myself fiscally with music.
i was looking at possibly going to college to do something in music, but i dont know how to go about this, or what are respectable musical colleges. i can play guitar and drums pretty well, but i was looking to do more of the production. what does watmm suggest?
