Discussion: why is live music overwhelmingly male?
Post Body

Especially at the local level.

I recently noted that in my four or so years seriously gigging and attending open mic nights and the like, live music is nearly completely a man's venture. Absolutely disproportionately.

I'd make a guess that in my experience, the ratio of men:women performing/in bands/solo/whatever is something like 10:1.

Why could this be? Better yet, why -is- this (as in do you know of any reasonably certain studies done?)
