Hello everyone, Iām currently completing my first album and trying to determine how to find a good audio engineer.
I donāt want to skimp on this essential part of the process, so Iām wondering where are good places to look to find someone?
Iāve looked at some local music studios, but a lot of the sample work Iāve heard are missing something. The album Iām doing is a rap album, and alot of the sample mixes Iāve heard them do on other artists sound like the vocals arenāt sitting in the mix. They sound too present and digital.
I was looking at some recent albums from artists I like (Kendrick (MMATBS), JID (TFS), Denzel Curry (Walkin), etc and the sound there is what Iām aiming for to some degree. The vocals feel more natural and blended in with the instrumental versus alot of the mixes Iāve been finding from local studios to be too distinct from the beat and feeling too ādigitalā if that makes sense.
Any advice on where and how to look?
Try looking into EngineEars.com There are loads of engineers for mixing and mastering on there. You can make payments instead of paying outright for a whole album worth of mixes. You can make mix notes and listen to mix refs and A/B back and forth. Itās pretty awesome. I push all my independent clients through the site when I get requested for mixing. Itās pretty smooth and seamless.
