So I'm a bit stuck atm with my progress and would appreciate any advice you have to offer.
I've gotten to a stage where I'm really happy with my song writing. That is, I can write an entire song, all the sections fully mapped out, a vibe I like, with lyrics I'm happy with etc. I'm also not too bad at music production. It's like, I'm not terrible, but I'm not amazing, but I can make it work in the end.
Where I'm getting stuck is combining the two together. I have a hard time making the composition sound interesting, in a way that adapts to the lyrics.
My theory is that because I'm writing out the song completely, and then doing the music production after, that maybe there's a disconnect.
But when I try to do it dynamically, like write the song and produce at the same time, I really struggle to get anywhere. It's like neither area becomes fully formed enough for me to progress, and I end up just giving up.
I think part of why writing out the song completely helps me, is because it's like a structural foundation for everything. It gives me confidence to know that there even is a song there, instead of just a nice sounding section that has no meaning or purpose.
On the other hand, I feel because there is this solid foundation, that the music production stagnates, because it becomes this very rigid thing that's already set in stone, and which doesn't fluctuate a whole heap. That's why I think a dynamic approach might work, but I'm not sure if that's actually true in practice.
When I talk about a production being dynamic, the link to the song below is probably a good example of that.

The production just has so many different twists and turns, and I'm not sure if that's because both song writing and production were done together, or if the production is just really good.
Basically, I'm wanting to figure out how I can get there, or what the issue might be.
Another thing I'm thinking is that maybe my idea of how songs are written/produced, is incorrect. Maybe what the song initially is, is very different to how it ends up being. That is, a production starts out rigid, but through many different iterations becomes something very different. Kind of like different layers on a painting.
Any help/perspectives greatly appreciated :) Especially in terms of practical next steps.
