Teleporting with teleport control above the ground and then resting allows you to rest in mid-air.

I just died while polymorphed into an possessed weapon. I was wearing an amulet of life-saving. I had an amulet of unchanging, but it was not equipped. I let a hill giant beat on me because I wanted to return to my normal self, but unfortunately I did not return I died permanently. As you can guess I was pretty pissed at level 14 and 2500 ft deep, had three wishes giving me tons of potions of gain ability, a blessed book of identify, and 3 dragon scale armor. Now, granted I learned some things this game, but I'm wondering, did I die because possessed weapons have the unchanging intrinsic? Or is this a bug and I got jipped out of a good character?
