Hi y'all! First time posting but been a lurker for a bit. I've had pretty wavy hair all my life but then oddly with each baby my hair got straighter and straighter and so I went with it and even did like Brazilian blow outs to help it get less frizz. Well, thanks to covid and having 4 kids and a husband working insane hours I basically never left the house so without realizing it I went a solid 4 months with no heat and noticed the under layers of my hair were getting pretty wavy again! So I've been going full steam ahead with no heat, all CGM approved products, tips from this and curly hair, even had a trim and tutorial session with a devacurl stylist local to get her input on my process.

So here's what my question is- I really love having long hair and I feel safe and prettier with it bc I feel like it hides some of how swollen my face is due to meds I have to take. But in looking at my hair as it's getting more wave and curl as I learn to treat it right, I think I need to cut the bottom maybe 3 inches off? Like I feel like when I look at it there's almost a clear demarcation line from where my hair is forming casts and getting nice wave but then it just...stops and the ends are straight lol

The other part is, I already spent a decent amount with the curly hair stylist, new products, etc. Am I insane to think I could cut those ends myself? Or having my husband or a friend do it? We have 3 girls and 1 boy so my husband's actually pretty decent at hair and Ive cut his during covid (tight fade with a line) he also had to help do my hair for a while when I had my shoulder reconstructed. We have hair scissors somewhere around here we bought specifically for this.

I think I'd probably do a dry cut and literally just gently trim with scissors facing up kind of like how you can trim your own bangs so it's not just blunt straight across. Thoughts? Collage of pics of me in blue shirt is the first time I'd even attempted to go with wavy friendly process, minimal product used , still trying to figure out what my hair likes.

Next set of pics is me a month in, I use all CGM friendly products now and use different techniques and I can see it improving and I'm slowly figuring out what my hair likes.

Routine- 1.HIGH/MED water, use Tresemme Botanique Coconut Nourish Conditioner to do a cowash. Making sure to kind of gently detangle with our fingers and do some gentle scalp massage.

2.Rinse out tresseme, then put a good solid handful/healthy scoop of Pacifica Pineapple Curls Curl Defining Conditioner. At this point, I do the actual brushing. While the thick conditioner is setting on my hair, I use a wet brush and very gently brush the tangles while it's wet and slippery. Once brushed through I try and keep it out of the water this whole time as I don't want it to rinse out just yet. I let it sit for as long as I can- so this is when I'm shaving my legs, washing body, scrubs, whatever.

  1. Now my hair is very very saturated and pretty much still covered in conditioner and super slippy. I don't like having to flip my head over so I do a squish to condish kinda deal with my head forward and down enough that I can squish to condition and help the clumps form.

4.Turn water low/cool and rinse conditioner out but still leave a little slip. I try and do a little scrunch at this point again just so it can kind of clump and separate.

  1. With my hair super saturated by water still. I dry myself trying to barely move my hair since it can get frizzy super easy. Then it's time to do more style.

  2. So I'm still kinda working his part out. Currently what I do is a small amount of Cantu- Natural Hair Curl Activating Cream. Try and use praying hands to make sure it's all being covered. Then I scrunch for a bit. Then I add a bit more, then scrunch, then I put on Garnier Fructis Style Pure Clean Extra Strong Hold Styling Gel kind of sporadic more and trying to find the spots that are not wanting to stay in their curl cast. I think also do maybe 3-4 decently big pumps of Moroccan Oil and then do the same of 1-2 pumps of Lux Brand Hair Oil.

I try and really warm it up before putting it on spots like all the weirdo wild baby hairs at my hairline (those hairs from pregnancy that grow back at your hairline all crazy & leave you with almost mini bangs🤦🏼‍♀️). The odd part, for me at least, is that those baby hairs are a completely different type of hair compared to the rest of my hair as far as texture, how dry they are, curl pattern is more kinky and some of the hair that's underneath the top layer bc can be dry and just needs the oil to help keep it tamed.

  1. Once all the product is on, I use a t-shirt just to scrunch, scrunch, scrunch while also slowly absorbing some the water since my hair was so fully saturated. And that's it!

  2. At this point I just am done with the routine! The blessing in being a stay at home mom is that we dont leave the house very often so I don't mind walking around the house with a big wet spot on your shirt as it dries.

  3. I want to get better at using a diffuser - even if I want to use it briefly to completely dry my hair or use it to just dry I enough you won't have drip marks. I'm trying to find some tutorials about the new ways & tricks to help with getting volume and definition with diffused curls still nicely casted/smaller clumps. I used to use my diffuser in high school and it didn't ever look good which makes me think I was doing it totally wrong lol

10.So going back to step 8, I can decide to let it just air dry completely is way easier for me and saving diffusing for special occasions but maybe there's a way where I could diffuse and still keep the curl that I get from and I can do a combo as my normal hair routine.

Other facts: Wavy-2B with high porosity, medium density, medium width Uses satin scrunchies only/no rubberband a - Washes my hair every 7-10 days
