Combat for Combat's Sake?

What do you guys think about the Bar fight in the Yawning Portal immediately interrupted by A Troll and Stirges coming out of the Yawning Portal? It seems a little "Oh look hey! Fighting! Cool! Players, please make fight and do combat yay!"

It just seems like really action-y and a combat-for-combat's-sake type feeling to it. I don't know if I want to start it just this way, or at least alter it somehow to make it a little more dramatic and meaningful.

I like the idea of having a mutual *NPC Friend* character really nervous to go down the hole for the first time with a group of adventurers, and then running back up to escape the Troll. ----- I feel like this makes the combat more interesting and gives it some context.

(I do really like the Troll thing btw, unexpected and intimidating)
