I just recently (last night) finished an 8 day water fast from Thursday night to Friday night. I had a little bit of bone broth on Saturday because I was going on a 14km bike ride and knew it was going to hurt and it did. Other than that I was on herbal tea (dandelion chai, roibos and chamomile before bed), salt and a marine derived magnesium (it also had calcium). I was exercising most days, mainly walking 2-5 km a day with some light weights, stretching and one yoga class. I Probably pushed myself a bit to hard as I could really feel the delayed onset muscle soreness by day 8. It was only day 8 I started taking a kelp iodine supplement and some cream of tartar for potassium ( should of taken potassium sooner as I had muscle soreness from its depletion).
The first few days are the hardest, you have to change your routines and habits as eating is something we spend a lot of our time doing and planning. After that I was feeling good and felt like I could continue for many days. I probably didn't supplement enough minerals Which had me feeling my lowest energy on day 8. Until that day I felt like I could do 20 plus days. I have a fun run tomorrow and decided to break my fast to make sure I have the energy for it.
I broke the fast with a piece of steamed fish. Well a sipped a bit of bone broth and then had the fish 20 minutes later. No real complications from using fish to break my fast. I lost 7kg total (down 110kg to 103kg) which I think is pretty crazy. I went down a belt size and can see a visible difference. My goal was 10kg. I'm going to keep fasting I'm just replenishing a bit of energy for my 5km fun run.
I've done plenty of 1,2 and 3 day fasts but this was my first longer one. Happy to answer any questions.
