I'm looking into getting some type of RO or filter system for my apartment. It needs to be countertop and portable because I may only be here for another 6 months to a year and just really don't want to start messing with anything under the sink. I've narrowed it down to these two brands:
- Apec Countertop
- ProOne - ProMax - single or dual?
- ProOne Coldstream
I know the Apec is RO, the ProOne Max I don't think is RO tho as it leaves some minerals? I'm not sure the difference between the single and duel ProMax, but I see that the Coldstream version doesn't filter fluoride, but it does however filter viruses, bacteria, and microplastics. Would the dual version of the ProMax or the Apec filter microplastics as well? I did email the company last night when I started my research again but I think they may be closed for the long weekend.
I'm not to worried about the "Filters up to X amount of gallons" part, because it's just me, and I mostly drink sparkling mineral water anyway, but I'm looking for a cleaner source of still water for my electrolyte mixes, and just the occasional quick glass of something to relieve dry mouth, take a supplement, etc. I live right by the beach in South Florida, and my tap water isn't really that bad per say, but my building is so old, and they constantly have plumbing issues, I just really don't trust the pipes, and it doesn't taste all that great either. Kind of unrelated, but I was recently just in California, and I got some water from a spout at Henry Cowell Redwood Park, and wow, that was some of the best tasting water I've ever had. Not sure if I was just thirsty or what lol but I still think about that water.
I was also considering one of their Gravity Filters. I'm just not sure if I'd prefer this style over something connected to the sink. I wouldn't have to deal with all the hoses and sink attachment though. I do like the idea of having one of the travel ones for camping trips, but as I just mentioned it seems the water at a lot of camping sites I've been too is actually pretty good on it's own.
I could also get Mountain Valley water delivered in 5 gallon glass carboys, there is a 3 item minimum and bottle deposits, so I'm not sure how quickly I'd go through 5 gallons. But then there's also having to get either an electric/manual pump, and I'm not sure how those silicon cords sitting in the water for extended periods of time would effect the taste or quality, if at all? Or like a stand with a ceramic crock and spigot, but then the price is just getting up and up at that point, when I could spend $200 on the ProMax and just reuse my Gerolsteiner bottles. This route seems like a lot of work with deliveries and moving big 5 gallon jugs around, trying to keep it as simple as possible.
Anyway, that's about all I can think of for now, sorry for the long post, but I appreciate any feedback or discussion this may garner, thanks!
