The election has come and gone as it does every year, however with the ten years in office complete, Rana Tadros's seat as Commisioner of the Nile Mandate has come to a close. She resumes her post as a librarian in the city, and the seat is now open to a general sortition. Her position is the last announced, traditionally, and the city watches as the political climate gently shifts. The Copt-Sunni party continues to decline, and the non-aligned faction remains strong. The Peacekeepers and the Rebirth Mandate have eroded the numbers of the Unions, and now there is a stalemate below the still dominating Red Fort Office.
The crowning jewel in the RFO is the signing in of known ally Malika Khan, a lifelong citizen of Old Mansoura and descendant of a founding member. She will safeguard the interests of the cities elite for the next decade in office.
Once again however, the Red Fort is forced to sign a deal. This time they forwent the more powerful Unions in favor of the Rebirth Mandate, signing a much less punishing agreement than last year.
In exchange for the political support of the Rebirth Mandate and a collection of Independents for this year, the Red Fort has promised the following changes:
2.5% of the Pensions budget is to be reallocated to Education.
Five members of the Slavery Commission, under investigation for extra-judicial activities during the recent expansions down the Nile, are to be found guilty and executed, weakening their authority.
The power grids of Old Mansoura and Alexandria are to be interconnected along the main roadway, to combat a string out outages that have been effecting the northwestern communities.
The mandated price of Rice is boosted by 15%, appeasing farming lobbies eager for a stronger presence in the internal market.
