Kara Kul is a fascinating place. It is, relatively speaking, simply a tiny mountain town, heavily fortified against attacks in all directions. But somehow this little fortress gained supremacy over a massive area of land and people. Today, it is one of the most powerful of the Ferganan City States, and has a huge amount of say over the affairs of the valley - as it always has. It owes it's reputation and prestige to many simple facts and assurances.
For one, it is the state that is maintaining the cordon around one of the most dangerous parts of the known wasteland, and has been doing so for as long as anyone can remember.
They also were instrumental in the rise to power for Guli, by leading the charge that annihilated the Uy Beylik six years ago. Their martial prowess proved the basis for the modern system of war, and has not been forgotten.
But there is one more claim to fame, a newer one. For the first time, Kara Kul can claim to have some resource wealth - Timber. The demand for good Timber has been insatiable, and twice now their forests have been given special attention. More recent efforts have looked further afield, but for now the Kara Kul Forests are still the main supplier of Beylik Timber, and are as essential part of the machine of war as the Tashkent Bronze and Iron foundries.
And so, ever year they work to increase production, with or without support. Gradually they have discovered new ways of improving efficiency and speeding up regrowth, much to the benefit of both their customers and their pockets. Kara Kul looks to be remaining a powerhouse within the Beylik for quite some time yet.
