Greater London was hit hard by the Calamity, but such a large and prosperous region takes more than a few disasters to remove from the map. After the fall, a number of enterprising looters uncovered many hidden caches of weapons and materials in the ruins, and set up their own camp in The City of London at the heart of the old London Metropolis. As the food supplies diminished, the now heavily armed looters began to pacify the metropolitan warlords and offer much needed protection to the farming communities that sprung up in the nearby countryside. Very quickly the city became the capital of an oligarchy ruling over the London Metropolis and the South East of old England. At it heart lies the mostly intact Gherkin building, within which the looter turned Oligarchs hold court and administer their realm.
