What is up with the save system?

So upset.
Just spent a few hours playing. Got in a bind. Tapped and loaded up a quick save....and I’m back at yesterday play. I check both my quick saves and my manual saves from today. It’s all yesterday. Nothing seems to be here from the last few hours. I had auto save turned on, too.
So pissed.
I either don’t understand how the saved and quick saves work, or something glitched. I had one crash about an hour ago. Perhaps that did something?
Playing on original Xbox One.
