keeping wasps away from riding mower?

I have a riding mower parked under a lot of pine trees. I have nowhere else to park it and every year it's been covered in pinesap. This year I've been stung twice and previous years it's never happened. What is the best approach to stop them from swarming me every time I start the mower? I thought about buying peppermint oil and spraying the mower each time I want to use it but I'm not entirely sure how well that would work. Maybe a cover would be better?
