Has anybody else noticed/been surprised how since the pilot to the end of season 3, there have been no flashbacks at all to the origins or youth of any of the characters. There haven't even been any cold opens set in the past. I find this kind of strange as I think all the characters on the show have the depth to justify it.
Of course we all know from the pilot that the reason Ah Sahm arrived in San Fran was because he was sent by his father (if I remember right??) to find his sister who left before him. I think if we do get a season 4, the cold open to episode 1 may be him as a boy learning martial arts, and Mai Ling and the family living in China. Maybe he faces someone young or gets a lesson in crime and death early with a local warlord or family death. Still its not just Ah Sahm who deserves a flashback, even though it makes sense as the central lead for him if anyone to get one. Young Jun under his difficult ruthless father. Ah Toy's journey to establish a successful brothel. Chao's journey to being a businessman. Leary's journey to America with the Irish even.
What are everybody else's thoughts? Correct me if I got anything wrong. I know there has been plenty of minor exposition and background discussions here and there. But an actual visual throwback could be badass and I still think it would be in the show's style.
