So throughout the movie they mention that they are trying to get to Boston right?
Ray works as a dockhand in Brooklyn and lives in Bayonne New Jersey which is pretty much within spitting distance of Manhattan. That's a 4 hour drive barring traffic and detours to Boston Proper and a 3 day walk if you keep a good pace.
After the Tripods attack and he jacks the car they first get on a highway, probably I78 cause going into the city is a dumb and bad plan. Then they have to cross the Hudson by ferry. They did this scene at Athens New York, in between Albany and New York City but closer to Albany. (55 hours left to walk)
Why?
There are 60 major suspension, rail and auto bridges across the Hudson river not mentioning the numerous shallow areas where you could row across with one of the abandoned tourist boats. I know that the Tripods focused on destroying infrastructure first so you'll say "well all the bridges were out" but then why is the ferry still operational? You're telling me they missed the big fuck off boat moving to and from each bank of the river? Hell they could've just gone a few more miles north and used the shallows by Schodack Island to cross.
Then they stay in ye ole wacko's house for a good while until they get scooped up by the harvester tripod. Bing bang boom they escape due to a few Grenades and some how don't get impaled by the tree they land in. Then boom they're in Boston. You're telling me the Tripod they were in just BOOKED it towards Boston?
Don't get me wrong the movie is still great it just seems like no body thought about how dumb this trip looked
