I’ve been playing on my ps5 and I like the game, it’s nothing to write home about but it has the perfect design for a nice 1-2 hour session imo. The main problem I see in my games though is that whether intentional or not, people don’t really follow the roles or pay attention to the state of the match at any given time. I had a game this morning where almost the whole team was throwing themselves against the enemy walls, meanwhile one castle guard squad and I were struggling against two squads rushing through our middle gates because no one really built defenses.
I think giving a valor incentive for doing role based objectives, and silver bonus for completing missions would be a good start towards fixing this. Maybe 15-25 valor for doing objectives you’re assigned with 10 being the base for anything else (for example building a ballista as castle guard earns more than attacking enemy defenses) and maybe 100-300 for missions just going down the list.
Next would be in game voice chat, at least within squads with commanders having the whole team available on push to talk, being able to communicate to your squad with info would be ideal and having the commander able to let the entire team know about key opportunities or needs for retreat would probably bring better personal satisfaction for everyone’s performance in match,
The last thing I could think of is adding role queue and open queue game modes. Right now the way ropes are assigned seems a little off, I’m sure there’s people who end up being assigned castle guard or special ops while wanting assault either because two or more people wanted it or no one on their squad voted while everyone else did. I’m almost certain this at least a small part as to why some may see those same roles leaving defenses bare and rushing into the fray.
Changing this to leaving squad making for after roles have been chosen both by letting people pick what they want and making however many squads you can for each and by having roles selected before even queuing up for a more traditional experience of the game, having players pick at least two roles or being open for any. Obviously this is the system that overwatch uses but I feel as if it is the very system that would help this game flourish.
These are just my thoughts on how to help improve what is already a solid foundation. Again I enjoy the game even with more losses and draws than wins and would like to see it become something more recognized and experienced, just needs a few tweaks is all.
