This is going to be a fairly short one as I am sticking to just characters.
Characters:
Glade Lord
Purpose- Giving leadership and taking out high armor stuff from afar. Alas, the previous book saw one of the most fun builds of all, the 4 shot no armor save highborn. No more. The best this guy can do in shooting now is to take the Hail of Doom Arrow (HoDA) or the Bow of Loren for 5 shots at -1 to armor. These aren't bad options, but they aren't great either. Rhymer's harp isn't worth while in MSU because you don't have a big target unit. You can run him for his leadership and throw Acorn of Ages on him so that a weaver can bring better magic items. A take only for the ld. and Acorn really.
Recommendation- Only use him if you have the points or want to protect your spellweaver and have the Acorn. Be sneaky and put starfire arrows on this guy. The reason? They are flaming. Use this to try to put a wound on pesky regeneration monsters like HPA. Most regen is in destruction, so that is why you go with starfire over moonfire.
Spellweaver
Purpose- This character is key to your list. You need a lvl 4 for both magic defense and offense. If used properly, as will be discussed later, this model can outrigh destroy your opponent's army. And not because of dwellers or purple sun. If going the Acorn route, not a bad idea, then you either put it on this guy/girl or have a Glade Lord as well. If a glade lord, limit what you put on this character to a 4 ward
Recommendation- We will get into lores later, but for the time being, this is a shadow weaver.
Noble Builds
Purpose- Boy this guy used to be fun with KB spears and eagles. Unfortunately, he doesn't have access to KB any more. Also, they took out Alter Nobles. Ultimately, this makes our Noble build quite simple and unimaginative. Take him as BSB and give him HoDA. Ho Hum. Do remember to throw starfire arrows on him just as you did with the highborn.
Spellsingers
Purpose- These can be used to add some magic punch or to neuter the enemy at just the right time.
Recommendation- If taken, use a lvl 1 with heavens or shadow (though you likely already have miasma with your lvl 4). Iceshard is just so nice and miasma destroying an opponents movement can never be overlooked.
Shadowdancer
Purpose- This could be used as your lvl 1 shadow mage if you go that route. However, then you have the problem of not wanting your mage in combat even though you spent an extra 80 on making him good in combat. Instead, use this model for its ability to assassinate. Remember to throw it in with a unit with champion so that he doesn't get challenged out of contact with the mage you want to take out.
Recommendation- I don't take it. Just take its points in wardancers instead.
Waystalker
Purpose- This is can be used to try to take out characters or even just soften them up. Since his no armor save shooting doesn't come because of enchanted arrows, you can take the Bow of Loren with him for a total of 2 shots with no armor save or (I believe) 4 shots w/armor piercing. Use him to snipe and you will see him still hitting on 2s after the multiple shot and sniper modifier.
Recommendation- I don't see him as a bad option and worth taking if you chose to go this route.
