Like the Title says. I am an Imperial Knight player and I have been commenting on this sub and others for 10e insight and discussion. I have noticed a trend of massive amounts of Downvotes on anyone who don't think Imperial Knights are overpowered and on anyone who gives facts on what has been said by GW employees and TOs on the rerolls for Lay Low the Tyrants but those who spew 'competitive' commentary with no facts and just generally either claim Imperial Knights are some overpowered beasts in need of a nerf or bad mouths them gets all the upvotes.
Do players here not realize that Imperial Knights haven't placed higher than middling in most Tournaments since 7th? Ever since the LoW release for any other faction they really haven't done much besides be a distraction. In 10e for the first time in a while they have rules that work with themselves and can do more than just stand there and either shoot or try to charge hoping not to get hit. Even with that they have several very easy to reach exploits to get totally wrecked in competitive scenes. They are still a kind of a few models, few kinds of build army that will find itself hard pressed against a lot of the Deathstar formations that other Armies have. It is slightly easier in 10th to win but they are nowhere near the levels that deserve the hate they are getting.
Just for those scared people who disagree, they still can't hit in melee against anyone who has decent strength and AP (i.e. Most leaders.), They have precious little Percision so can't effectively target other characters in those ever revive formations (i.e. Necrons, Nids, Orks, Guard), Most Anti Vehicle Rule weapons ignore their Toughness and have decent AP so relying on that 5 most times, The Feel no pain is nice at a 6 though is fishing, 5 if you're lucky to kill the enemy warlord which they still can't get to easily unless someone else brought a large warlord, yes Towering made it easier to shoot enemies but true LOS still means on any board with good amount of Cover will still Obscure any model that isn't large, and oh Benefit of Cover is stupid easy to get right now even shooting into Melee they can get cover if one model is even slightly covered the whole unit gets it, besides two specific Questoris the only Ignore Cover is a few very weak flamers with little to no AP. And oh, we are still Large Models so maneuvering towards objectives is still a pain on most boards. Good luck on Scoring Objectives half the time when the blobs can take it from you and return infinitely, so what I can kill a whole squad or two in the Shooting. They return with a single CP for at least four Armies I know of. Oh, and if that blob ends up in Melee with say a Crusader or a Castellan or any Ranged focused Knight well, half its guns are sealed off unless you just happened to walk a different unit in range of them because still can't fire Blast into CC so got to rely on only a couple of no blast weapons.
That was just the lessons learned for a few matches in 10e so far. I am sure better players than I can come up with other more specific counters and ways to deal with LoW easily. Now that rant is mostly over. Imperial Knights are not low tier at all either, they are not weak, so don't get me wrong. They can be challenging especially for the unprepared. They are on the high end of mid-tier at best at the moment. And have averaged in the middle and are still averaging that way. Chaos and SM are much more flexible and have easy access to more damage for less points. The Four I already listed can literally do endless hordes, The rest I haven't got a great impression their abilities yet but let's not forget that Wraith Knights of the Eldar can squash an Imperial Knight easy at the moment. Chaos Knights Variants actually have decent Melee protection.
