Shooting + Psyker Army - Any tipps?

Hey guys :)

I have recently been getting more and more into this hobby, first via lore videos, then via some online play videos. If anyone knows him, JoshStrifeHayes originally got me onto it with the quite fascinating game he played while waiting on a que to pop. ;)

I read through most of the general rules and found, that from my playstyle in other games like MTG, DnD and some TableTop games, I would love an army, that gives me a lot of options for shenanigans at the start of my turn and flexibility there, as well as me just loving caster and psychic aesthetics in general, so I wanted to go with a psyker army and originally looked into Grey Knights. But I discovered fairly quickly, that keeping distance strategically and the shooting phase is much more liked by me then melee combat, which kind of made Grey Knights awkward.

I have been looking further into it, seen quite a few "factions to play"-videos, but never quite found an army advertised as having great psychic and shooting in the same way Grey Knights have great psychic and melee. From what I gathered though:

  • Eldar seem to fit quite well, maybe from the Ulthwé craftworld
  • A shooting focussed Tyranid army could work
  • Thousand Sons have very nice psykers, but I have not found much about their balance of melee and shooting, only it seems a relatively low range as far as shooting goes I think?
  • Necrons have C'tan powers and some early-in-your-turn decision with command protocols and my will be done and are more beginner friendly. They have one shooting focussed dynasty as far as I know.
  • Orks seem to have some decent psykers, although again are more melee focussed and generally less... finessed?
  • Chaos demons have also some decent psykers, but are definitely even more melee focussed then even Orks

Can you help me out, what might be good factions to look at or good questions to ask myself, to further narrow it down?
