Prepainting bases - How to fasten models to the base?

Hello, I plan on making my bases a volcanic lava style base. It will have a couple coats of color followed by a cracking texture paint.
Gluing models to it will just glue to the cracky texture paint. And pregluing the models doesnt really work either.
How would you recommend attaching the models to the base?
