Hello everyone, hope all are having a fine day today. I thought I would share a battle report of my game yesterday. Some of y'all might have seen my posts of working my on my army up to the day and it was a lot of fun. I learned a few things and wanted to share what happened.

The mission was Open War style and the deployment was table quarters, the objectives was supply cache, and the twist was Eager for the Fight. So 6 objectives were set up on the board and at the beginning of the player turn, a roll of 6 meant that was the only objective and all other objectives were null. The player that controlled the objective by the end of turn 5 won. The twist meant that all models added 2 inches to their movement and you also got to add 1 inch to advance and charge. It was a 2 v 1 game with my 2 friends playing Tau lists versus my one.

I played Death Guard and my list was:

Daemon Prince with wings

Malignant Plaguecaster

2, 5 man Plague marine squads with plasma gun champion and 2 blight launchers

1, 5 man Plague marine squad with plasma champion and 2 plasma guns

20 Pox walkers

1 Myphetic Blight Hauler

Foeted Bloat Drone with 2 plague spitters

Foeted Bloat Drone with lawnmower/manreaper

2 Plagueburst Crawlers with entropy cannons.

I don't quite remember my friends' list but it had a riptide, Ghostkeel, Coldstar Commander, Regular (3 missile pods) commander, 2 fire blades, path finder squad, 2 stealth suit teams, 4 fire warrior squads, 1 large squad of kroot, and lots of drones. Basically each ran a battalion as did I. However since they were on one team they combined their pool of CP. Also since I had 1 more power level point they got the ruse: Tactical Reserves, which allowed them to completely bring back a destroyed unit.

We deployed and they were unable to seize.

Turn 1:

I was sitting on one objective and surprise! I rolled a 6 and had the objective. So I jumped on it with my poxes and plague caster. The marine squads split up for fire lanes, my spitter drone ran up into his lines and the lawnmower went down a flank with the prince. I didn't think I needed to move my crawlers and unfortunately lost out on shooting with the entropy cannons...oops. However with some shooting and assaults by the drones resulted in destroying a stealth squad, hurting pathfinders, and hurting the second stealth suits.

They moved a lot of squads around and with some fantastic shooting destroyed both drones. However I was able to use the explosion strategem and throw a lot of mortal wounds around. However the two drones did absorb their whole army shooting and marker lighting.

Turn 2:

I moved the plague marines some more for better shooting and hugging walls for cover. This time I moved the crawlers but the entropy cannons didn't do too much. I manage to wipe out the other stealth suits and the mortars kill the pathfinders.

They move closer and with withering waves of fire destroy 2 plague marine squads and the blighthauler. Things aren't looking too good for me. The cold star commander does a super jump and tries to triple fusion blaster a crawler but whiffs.

Turn 3:

I almost conceded at this point. I didn't feel like I hurt them that much, in fact the big suits had more self inflicted overcharge rolls than me doing anything. However I have been looking forward to this game for so long I decided to keep going. Some more shooting and some good rolls sees the commander killed from the entropy cannons and another squad of fire warriors killed from mortar fire.

They bring the commander back with the ruse and he manages to take some wounds off my Prince. They maneuver some more and start to whittle down the poxes sitting on the objective. Thankfully miasma seemed to really vex their rolling.

Turn 4:

I play the Dead Walk again and manage to rebuild the squad with a lot of shooting their fire warriors and kroot that got close enough. I also manage to heal a lot of wounds off the prince with the Grandfather's Blessing strat and he manages to charge the coldstar commander and wipe him out with one charge.

More advancement and moving closer and the suits shoot and reduce more of the poxes. The big suits charge a crawler but nothing happens.

Turn 5:

Calamity! My Plaguecaster peril'd and failed to cast miasma on the poxes. This isn't good. Some more shooting whittled their numbers down and my Prince managed to do a 10 inch charge into 5 firewarriors, killing 4.

This was it for them, bottom of 9. They had to kill my poxes and advance the few firewarriors onto the objective. They did the super laser, killing the plaguecaster and with the combined fire of all their remaining suits and commander, manage to kill the poxes. One firewarrior was able to advance onto the objective so they won.

I honestly did not expect it to last that long! I really thought I was down and out but it came down to the last turn and the last few dice rolls. If i didn't peril and miss the miasma I might have won but hey, that's the breaks. They manage to get a lot of CP back with their trait and that really helped them. I was incredibly lucky in getting the supply cache in the beginning. If I had to storm their lines it wouldn't have turned out nearly as well for me.

In the end though, it was a lot of fun. Game went for a bout 3 hours because they were relearning the Tau and I have only played 3 games with the Death Guard. I was sad my drones got killed so early and weren't able to do much but they did their job, absorbing a lot of fire and killing in explosive fashion. Because of their marker lights they were able to ignore cover a lot thus making the hauler a little moot, and killing it super early to boot. I still love that model.

So that was the game! I am going to keep working on the Death Guard and come up with other fun lists, goodness knows I still have lots to build and paint. Thank you for reading.
