Hello everyone! This is my first post on this wonderful sub so I hope it's ok. I wanted to post a mini Battle report of sorts and talk about my take always from the game. Feedback of course is welcome.

Yesterday I played my second game of 8th and the first time with my new Death Guard army. First non imperial army too. I was excited to see how it would do and to see the Primaris in action as well. We shot for 1000 point lists.

My list was: Malignant plaguecaster (Warlord) Lord of contagion 7 man plague marines with 2 plasma guns and a plasma/powerfist champion 13 man pox walker squad 10 man pox walker squad Foetid blight drone Predator with autocannon and lascannon sponsons.

My friend's list was all of the primaris models from the box set.

We played the first mission from the global campaign. He got points for completely killing my units and I got points for having units in his deployment zone.

I don't remember exactly what happened turn by turn but do remember the gist of things.

Turn 1:

He deployed a squad of intecessors and a lieutenant on one end and everyone else in a bubble on another. He held the inceptors in reserve. He seized. I deployed my plaguecaster, the plague marines, and the 10 man squad of pox walkers in the same line as his smaller squad. The predator, the 13 man pox walkers, and the drone on facing his big group. Lord of contagion in reserve.

He did some shooting and I failed all my disgusting resilient rolls. Loss pox walkers from both groups and a wound on the drone. I moved the drone up, wounded a intecessor and charged in. The poxes moved up. The plague marines wounded the other small squad and the plaguecaster covered them with miasma. The predator killed an intecessor. The drone managed to kill an intecessor.

Turn 2:

He deepstruck his inceptors near the drone and fell back with the intecessor squad. (Oops. I didn't think of that). Everything near by lit up the drone and he charged his captain in killed it in close combat. Thankfully I rolled the explode and lots of his stuff got a mortal wound. His other squad of intecessors killed more poxes.

I forgot to roll for my lord of contagion. The poxes moved up into the cover on his side of the field but those ap -1 bolt rifles! My plague marines killed another intecessor and my plague caster managed to smite another one to death. My predator killed an inceptor.

Turn 3:

Everyone shot and wasted the bigger pox squad in the middle. He moved his dudes around for auras and that was it. He moved his lieutenant and the reduced intecessor away from the far side.

I bring in the lord onto terrain to hide and moved the plague caster and plague marines fully into his deployment. Predator whiffed and the plague marines finished his reduced intecessor squad.

Turn 4:

He shot up the other pox squad leaving only one lone pox and tried to put some wounds on the lord. Lord made his saves. Missed hits on the predator.

My predator made up for his mistake and killed the last two inceptors and moved closer. I moved my lord of contagion closer to his gun line. Plague marines hurt his hellblaster squad.

Turn 5:

He put a few wounds on the lord and missed killing the pox walker.

My turn moved the predator into his zone and killed the hellblaster squad. My lord of contagion charges his other lieutenant and kills him in the charge. He heroically intervened his captain and ancient into the combat and the captain wounded him with his fist. Plague marines wound another intecessor.

If the game ended now I had 4 units in his zone and he killed two units of mine. I would win. He rolls and of course we continue.

Turn 6:

He shoots everything at the pox walker and kills it. Then murders the lord of contagion with the captain.

I shoot stuff but nothing else dies. Of course my roll ends the game. Now I had only 3 units in his zone and he killed 4. He wins 4-3.

Take always:

I enjoy 8th edition. Yes it's more simple and I kept trying to overcomplicate it but it was a much faster game. Stuff died! That was great.

My biggest failing was having the psyker all the way on one end. He was the warlord though and I didn't want him shot up but if I was closer I could have used gift of contagion and smite more effectively. I kept also using miasma on the plague marines but maybe should have targeted the pox walkers. They need the better saves

Pox walkers are fun but can't have understrength squads. They die so fast and easily so I need Typhus with them or make sure they have plenty of dudes. I can't rely on disgustingly resilient as a way to protect them. It should be a back up, not a focus.

Bolt rifles with -1 ap are great! Kept keeping the poxes from having saves in cover. I wish there were slightly more rules for terrain. A little more interesting ones anyways.

All in all I had fun. My friend is always great to play against so that helps. I liked my list at 1000 points and am planning what I need for 1500 and 2000. I ordered the Typhon model from forgeworld because I love that model and I feel Typhus is great in any list. I am going to add 7 more plague marines with two blight throwers and increase the numbers of both pox walkers add another drone too. I wonder if I want to add a rhino or another predator. Also can't wait for the codex. I'm interested in that new tank and terminators.
